Oryzias latipes is a hardy freshwater model organism that performs best in stable, tanks or bins. Maintain high water quality through regular partial water changes and consistent filtration, and avoid rapid fluctuations in temperature or pH. Feed a varied diet of live and frozen foods such as Artemia nauplii or Daphnia magna 1–2 times daily to support growth and reproductive performance. Medaka spawn reliably in captivity, spawning can be induced by a controlled light cycle and stable temperature conditions. Provide spawning substrate to protect eggs from adults, and remove adults after spawning if embryos will be raised. Consistent environmental conditions are critical for reproducible developmental and behavioral experiments.
