Zebrafish (Danio rerio)
Danio rerio is a robust freshwater model organism that performs best in stable, well-filtered aquaria. Maintain high water quality through regular partial water changes and consistent filtration, and avoid rapid fluctuations in temperature or pH. Feed a varied diet of live and frozen foods such as Artemia nauplii or Daphnia magna 1–2 times daily to support growth and reproductive performance. Zebrafish spawn reliably in captivity, spawning can be induced by a controlled light cycle change and a modest drop in temperature overnight followed by a gradual increase in the morning. You can provide spawning substrate to protect eggs from adults, and remove adults after spawning if embryos will be raised. Consistent environmental conditions are critical for reproducible developmental and behavioral experiments.
