Model Organisms for Biological and Medical Research Applications

We provide live aquatic model organisms for research, education, and experimental work. All the organisms are responsibly collected, established in laboratory culture, and bred to be available for your needs. We also offer marine natural products, preserved specimens, and experimental classroom kits.

Primary cell cultures, experimental kits, biomolecules, and nucleic acid sequencing data from select model organisms coming soon.

Our objective is to provide the world’s researchers with access to model organisms, cell lines, natural products, and experimental resources that may not be widely available elsewhere. We aim to lower barriers to working with emerging or niche biological systems. The tree of life has much to offer, and our intent is broad, inclusive coverage.

Shipping is Included in our Prices for Live Organisms

We always ship overnight or next-day to ensure that live organisms arrive healthy. The cost of this fast shipping is already built into the price, so what you see is what you get.

Many of the organisms we distribute are collected from coastal waters in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Apparel

Want to support Whalore but do not currently have an ongoing research project? All profits go toward expanding our laboratory. Shirts come with stickers, and quarter zips come with a pin.

Model Organisms

We provide live aquatic organisms for biological and medical research. Specimens are responsibly collected, established in laboratory culture, and maintained under controlled conditions to ensure healthy populations. Our goal is to make both classic and emerging model systems accessible to researchers and educators. Some organisms we distribute are chosen due to our belief that they may have something to offer the scientific community, even if the literature including them is minimal.

Cell Lines

Primary cell cultures can make biological systems accessible that would otherwise be impractical to study in the laboratory. We are working to develop new cell lines from a wide range of organisms so their cellular biology can be investigated directly. These cultures may provide opportunities to study unusual physiological traits, longevity, regeneration, or environmental adaptations from species that are rarely represented in experimental systems.

Biomolecules

Many organisms produce a remarkable diversity of useful molecules. We are working to isolate and develop compounds such as pigments, structural proteins, toxins, and other biologically active materials with applications in medicine, biotechnology, nutrition, and cosmetics. The limits are only bound by our curiosity.

Educational Kits

Hands on biology kits designed for classrooms and teaching laboratories. These kits may include prepared (wet or dry) specimens, microscope slides, or experimental materials that help students explore living systems and their unique traits directly. Custom kits will also be available to match specific lesson plans or focus on targeted biological topics of interest.
